Privacy Policy

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information David Ogaro ("I", "me") collects through https://davidogaro.com (the "Site"), why, and what choices you have. I built this site myself and run it as an individual — there is no larger company or ad network behind it, and I don't sell your data to anyone.

Information I Collect

Contact form: your name, email address, and message, so I can reply to you.

Comments: your name, email address, and comment text. Your name and comment are shown publicly on the article; your email is never displayed publicly and is used only if I need to follow up (e.g. to address a moderation issue).

Newsletter: your email address, used only to send occasional updates when I publish something new. Subscriptions use double opt-in — you must click a confirmation link before any emails are sent.

Purchases and donations: your name and email address, plus payment processing handled entirely by Stripe or Paystack. I never see or store your card details — that happens on their systems, not mine.

Analytics (optional): if enabled, Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data (pages visited, general location, device type) to help me understand how the site is used. This only runs after you accept the cookie banner — see "Cookies" below.

How I Use Your Information

To respond to messages you send me.

To publish and moderate comments.

To send newsletter updates, only to addresses that have confirmed via double opt-in.

To fulfill purchases (deliver digital book downloads) and process donations.

To understand aggregate site usage, if analytics is enabled and you've consented to cookies.

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

This site does not set analytics cookies unless you explicitly accept them via the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Declining, or simply not interacting with the banner, means no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site, which will show the banner again.

Third-Party Services

This site relies on a small number of third-party services to operate: Stripe and Paystack (payment processing), Resend (transactional email delivery), Cloudflare R2 (file/image storage) and Neon (database hosting), and optionally Google Analytics (usage analytics). Each of these providers has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data on their systems.

Data Retention

I keep contact messages, comments, and order/donation records for as long as reasonably needed to run the site and meet any legal or accounting obligations. You can request deletion of your data at any time — see "Your Rights" below.

Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data I hold about you — your comments, newsletter subscription, contact messages, or purchase records — by emailing me at talktome@davidogaro.com. I'll respond and action reasonable requests promptly. Deleting a comment's underlying data does not un-publish content that has already been publicly visible for a period of time, but I will remove your name/email from my records on request.

Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

I may update this policy occasionally as the site changes. Material changes will be reflected by an updated date on this page.
